About

So why this blog?  Because conservation is my passion!  In college, one of my professors suggested that I take an environmental biology class as an elective. I was originally planning on majoring in microbiology and then going on to medical school. After I took the environmental biology class, I was hooked! I had always enjoyed the outdoors...hiking, fishing, camping, etc. but this class helped me see the world in a whole new way. I'll never forget my prof's take home message for the class....THERE IS NO AWAY! He wanted us to think about the everyday things we do that affect the health of the planet. One of the things he had us do was to weigh our trash. Weighing my trash was a big insight into how much waste one person can generate. I just threw stuff away and never thought twice about it. Now I think alot about it. I try to minimize the amount that goes to the landfill because really, alot of it can be recycled or reused. And, there are so many other things that can be done to reduce our negative impacts on the earth.

DH is convinced that most people just are not conservation-minded and that they never will be. I am an idealist, and I believe that there are alot of people that love nature, the environment, and the earth as much as I do. I also believe that there are many people who are willing to make changes for the health of the planet because having a healthy environment is beneficial to all of us. We are all interconnected. Everything we do has an impact in some way shape or form on our environment.

In my everyday life, I try to abide by the 3 R's of conservation: to reduce, reuse and recycle. I am commiting myself to living a more conservation-minded lifestyle.  Maybe you would like to make that commitment too and join me in my journey to live more sustainably.

I currently live in Jakarta, Indonesia.  I just moved here earlier this year.  If you are interested in my family's adventures living overseas, please visit me at my other blog: http://www.5abroad.blogspot.com/
